Aortic Stenosis: A Silent Killer
Aortic Stenosis Progression

Aortic stenosis affects over 1.5 million Americans, causing calcification of the aortic valve and preventing proper blood flow from circulating in the body. This can cause chest pain, low energy, heart palpitations, and breathing issues.

After the onset of symptoms, patients with severe aortic stenosis have a survival rate as low as 50% at 2 years and 20% at 5 years without aortic valve replacement.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Edwards Lifesciences pioneered the use of TAVR for aortic stenosis treatment. Utilizing their SAPIEN 3 Ultra Transcatheter Heart Valve and Delivery system, a balloon-expandable catheter system, a new valve is placed in the stenosed valve.

An Ergonomic Solution

The TAVR procedure, like many surgeries, requires repetitive and delicate movements, meaning surgeons are highly susceptible to muscle, joint, and nerve pain. 60.4% of physicians reported that they had sustained a work-related musculoskeletal injury, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The catheter has a small surface area, slippery coating, and must be pushed through twisting anatomy, requiring over 60N of force.
